Our latest exhibition is called Gallimaufry: a mixture of things. We have all been making work individually; with no overall theme as we have done in the past. So for the last two years members of Lateral Stitchers Group have been making pieces of textile art to a theme of their own choice. These themes include: Along these lines; Faces; Mushrooms; Mangroves; Journeys; Flowers for my Granddaughters; Nature’s Designs and Eco dye, Eco Print, Stitch.

In our meetings we have been doing Short and Sweet Workshops for 14 months, these were led by a member and have resulted in small artworks (15cmx10cm) that have been made into books of all sorts and a box or two. These workshops focus on either stitching into an unusual base such as fly screen wire, or making a base of scrunched and distressed paper, or using techniques such as darning, layering and needle weaving.
We have made a large wall hanging interpreting the poem ‘Spatial Realignment of Jam Tree Gully’ by John Kinsella, as a group project. The poem mentions among other things granite boulders, bird gullies, ant empires, a house and a shed, and Jam Trees.
| We will also hang our pieces created for the convener’s challenges - Order and Chaos and The point of stitch. | ![]() |
Come along, we’d love to see you there!
