Workshops Offered at Stitch-In 2020

FASCINATING FRENCH FLORALS with Susan Barker

This 2 day Hand Embroidery workshop is in the “style” of French Embroiderer, Cecile Franconie.
I did a one day workshop with Cecile in 2016 when she was a guest of the “Craft & Quilt Show”.

I have developed a series of workshops using some of her techniques;
-100% cotton patchwork fabrics and left- overs from other projects
-Simple Stitches
-Using up the stash, making odd things ‘work’

In this workshop I suggest you make a pincushion and needle case or small drawstring project bag.

I have several workshops in this style. What I especially like is that you are encouraged to make the most of what you have, and making everything work.

Cecile, uses lots of different yarns in her pieces so if you knit or crochet, some of the Novelty yarns often work a treat! This is fun and also relaxing and completely addictive.

WORDS AND TEXT IN CONTEMPORARY ABSTRACT STITCHED ART with Helen Parsons

Ever wanted to incorporate words to convey meaning in your work? Be inspired by contemporary artists who use meaningful words and text as inspiration and in their final works.

This relaxed workshop is an opportunity to explore your favourite texts; to play with fabrics, papers and threads from your stash; to learn simple layering and collage techniques; and a variety of ways of using and stitching words, with simple embroidery stitches in your work.

Students will be assisted to extract abstract design elements from photographs to create contemporary embroideries.

The tutor will have examples from her exhibitions – Why are there no great female artists?: Homage to Linda Nochlin; Gathering the Threads: Coming home and Lives across the Centuries: The untold stories.

Finished works can be used as wall hangings, framed artwork, or incorporated into a textile book format.  Student instructions, including a bibliography, will be provided in class.

A deposit of $100 is required to secure a place with a completed application form.

Tutors are generously donating their time for workshops.

Bookings will open on Monday 3 February 2020.

Application Forms are below and available on the website or from the Guild by emailing info@embroiderersguildnsw.org.au
