Background
My inspiration for embroideries now comes mainly from places I have visited (and I love to travel). These are usually landscapes but can also be textural or patterns. I classify my work as contemporary surface stitchery. I like to work with the fabric in my hand, rather than in a frame, to create texture using a variety of fabrics and threads.
As a member of the Maps Group I have exhibited throughout the state.
I learnt to embroider as a child in the Junior Farmers/ Rural Youth organisations and with my mother’s teaching. I successfully exhibited my work at local shows and submitted embroidery for my HSC in Textiles and Design. I joined the Embroiderers’ Guild NSW in 1998 and have completed numerous courses and workshops. In 2010 I complete the Proficiency course in Surface Stitchery. The following year I gained accreditation as a Guild tutor.
