Background
I have always been interested in stitch and the artistry involved. Growing up in rural Victoria was surrounded by the women in my family creating - my great grandmother with her busy crochet hook producing lace doilies, my grandmothers with fine embroidery, crochet, knitting and sewing, my mum with embroidery, sewing and crochet.
After many years absence, I picked up the needles again to complete commissioned works for a business based in Brisbane and returning south, joined first the ACT Guild and upon relocation to Sydney, the NSW Guild at the May 2002 Open Day.
While living in Sydney, I was an active participant of the Concord West Evening, Sunday Stitchers, Cross stitch (counted techniques) and Stitchers Plus groups - all based at Concord West.
Since joining the NSW Guild, I have completed the Basic Course - Introduction to Embroidery, the Practical Teaching Skills Course, and the Contemporary Stitch and Design Course. One more challenge presented itself: The Judge's Accreditation. This course has further grown my knowledge and understanding of stitch, technique, tools and design and it has been worth the investment to complete in 2024. I enjoy the counted techniques, pulled thread being a constant, goldwork and surface work, and honest enough to go, oh, pretty, and investigate some more and along came tambour and couture beading, Needlelace and crewel work.
Over the years I have undertaken a number of classes with local and international tutors to further my knowledge of a technique and/or skill and I am inspired by texture and detail, still learning and exploring all aspects of embroidery and how they can be interpreted into a stitched or embroidered work.
