Or nué embroidery has been around since the 15th C. Couching stitches in coloured thread, usually silk, are stitched in blocks over laid gold metal threads to create a form of needle-painting. Subtle shading can be achieved by gradating shades of colour as well as varying the spacing of the stitches.

Join us for a contemporary take on this very old technique. Cream, black and three shades of grey silk over the gold threads have been used for this young lady’s hair and scattered small gold spangles provide extra bling.

Stitch onto cream silk as in the sample or choose a coloured background fabric of your choice and different coloured silks for your subject’s hair.

Will you stitch a miniature portrait or include your finished embroidery as part of a larger work?

A basic kit containing the gold threads required will be available on the day.

Skill level: Intermediate to Experienced

Kit cost:    $14.00 to be paid to tutor.
