Metal Thread Embroidery is the first of the elective modules to be offered as part of the new Contemporary Stitch & Design Course and can be studied either as a stand-alone subject or as part of the Certificated Course.

Anyone wishing to explore the potential of contemporary metal thread embroidery in their work is invited to enrol. Historical and present-day styles and techniques will be studied as part of this module. Metal Thread Embroidery or Goldwork as it is popularly known, is currently undergoing a resurgence in popularity not least in the fashion and art worlds and today’s practitioners are experimenting with different materials not formerly associated with this technique.

A basic knowledge of metal thread embroidery is required. For those unfamiliar with the correct way to prepare a frame for metal thread embroidery, a one-day workshop is being held on Friday 12 January 2018 and it is recommended that students attend this day as framing up is not part of the module.
