Introduction to Embroidery: stitches and techniques

This is an Introductory embroidery course with an emphasis on stitches and techniques - no experience is required. It introduces students to a wide variety of techniques and their historical context. 

Duration 2 years 
Attendance 8 meetings from February to October (excluding June) usually
first Saturday of each month
Enrolments due by 1 December for the February intake
Class Times 9.30am to 3.15pm, with a 45 minute lunch break  
Fees Standard:  $720 each year       Members: $600 each year
Fees due by Fees may be paid in instalments (please enquire for arrangements).
Fees must be finalised before the first lesson of the y
ear.

Note: course will only run if there is sufficient interest, however if a large number of enrolments then the course may run in 2 intakes: February and July.

Course Topics:

Surface Stitchery, Counted Thread Work, Blocking and Mounting, Canvaswork, Fine Needlework, Metal Thread Embroidery & Pulled and Drawn Thread


Students will be required to develop a resource folder that includes:
  • an introduction and history of each technique
  • examination of the fabric and threads used for each technique
  • a series of worked samplers, devised by the tutor to give an understanding of each technique
A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to students who successfully complete the full course within the set period of the course.
