Introduction to Embroidery: stitches and techniques

This is an Introductory embroidery course with an emphasis on stitches and techniques - no experience is required. It introduces students to a wide variety of techniques and their historical context. 

Duration 2 years 
Attendance 1 five-hour day per month for 8 months per year between February and October
Fees To be paid in full on enrolment.
Guild members: $600 each year; Non-Members:$720 each year
Fees may be paid in instalments, please enquire.
Enrolments due by 1 December for the February intake
Class Times 9.30am to 3.15pm, with a 45 minute lunch break
February intake meets on 1st Saturday of the month   


Note: course will only run if there is sufficient interest, however if a large number of enrolments then the course may run in 2 intakes: February and July.

Year  2 Fine Needlework and Smocking
Canvas Stitchery
Metal Thread Embroidery

Students will be required to develop a resource folder that includes:
  • an introduction and history of each technique
  • examination of the fabric and threads used for each technique
  • a series of worked samplers, devised by the tutor to give an understanding of each technique
A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to students who successfully complete the full course within the set period of the course.
