Introduction to Embroidery
This is an
Introductory embroidery course with an emphasis on stitches and techniques - no
experience is required. It introduces students to a wide variety of
techniques and their historical context.

2021 - 9 meetings from March to November. 6 March, 27 March, no April meeting, then 1st Saturday of each month from May - November 2022 - 9 meetings from February to October usually first Saturday of each month |
Enrolments | due by 1 December for the February intake |
Class Times | 9.30am to 3.15pm, with a 45 minute lunch break |
Fees | Standard: $950 each year Members: $800 each year |
Fees due by | Fees may be paid in instalments (please enquire for arrangements). Fees must be finalised before the first lesson of the year. |
Note: course will only run if there is sufficient interest, however if a large number of enrolments then the course may run in 2 intakes: February and July.
Course Topics:
Surface Stitchery, Finishing Techniques, Canvaswork, Fine Needlework, Colour and Design, Counted Thread, Metal Thread Embroidery, Drawn Thread, Applique, English Piecing and Pulled Thread work.
Students will be required to develop a resource folder that includes:
- an introduction and history of each technique
- examination of the fabric and threads used for each technique
- a series of worked samplers, devised by the tutor to give an understanding of each technique
